iPhone Comic Reader
iComic is a native iPhone application that allows you to read comics, manga, etc… in .zip format. The application is available via the developers site but only with Japanese menus. I’ve translated the menus to English for the people unable to read Kanji, Katakana and Hiragana. There are three different options for page turning. Gravity Page Slide uses the iPhone’s accelerometer to turn the page for you by just tilting your iPhone. Button Page slide allows you to turn pages by tapping on either side of the touchscreen to advance or go back a page while Swipe Page Slide turns pages using a swiping motion across the touchscreen. To get back to the settings menu while in portrait or landscape mode, tap on the upper left part of the screen. There are tons of comics, manga or books in .zip format available on the web so you’re best bet is Google. The files to be read need to be uploaded into the var/root/media/Comic folder of your iphone. The translated menus are available for download below after the screenshots and need to be unzipped. After unzipping, upload the entire Japanese.lproj folder into the Applications/iComic.app folder overwriting the original files.

how do you install this onto the iphone i have tried using safari on the iphone and it wont accept the file.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
You won’t be able to download the file using Safari on your iPhone. You need to use a regular computer to download the translated menus.

Any ideas?
thanks

Make sure you’re uploading the files still zipped. Do not unzip them before uploading.
Errrr, anybody managed to unzip this on Winblows ? I get dummy files only, no useable directory of the listed names, no useable files.
Nevermind. You can’t see the sturcture, but if you check inside the original folder you’ll recognize what you have to overwrite. Worked reasonably well, altho still hafta guess which is “ON” and which is “OFF”
wonderful just what i need !!!
works fine great thanks a lot
I have download the zip file comics into the phone but can’t see any file to select can anyone help to give more info. Or there something missing in the icomic program??

interestingly it seems there is no need to replace the file, simply delete teh jap?anes.lproj folder and it deafults to English. However, my sett?ings menu buttons are still in Japanese… how did you get yours in English?
no worries.. sorted it… (amend the “ja” in the info.plist to “en”) thanks
ok i’ve got it all installed with the english menus and everything but the problem is now i can’t find the folder to put comics in! there is no “comic” folder after “var/root/media/…”

I have done the same thing but it does not look like it working cause i don’t see any file even when i re-zip the file and upload into comic folder. does the comic folder need to have a capital letter C or small letter c will do? something is work some where but really don’t know how to solve the problem maybe the icomic cannot be used with iphone 1.0.2 ver only 1.1.1 and above. Can anyone confrim it ?
Has anyone tested this on 1.1.3. If so do you install in the same way and are the folders still the same?
thanks.
1. the ‘Comic’ folder is case sensitive.
2. Some reports it works on 1.1.3., some reports of problems – app opens and crashes back to desktop
I got the iComic.app under application. and when i open the program from my iphone, it kinda open up and then freeze and then jump bak out to the main menu. I am on firmware 1.1.1, please help!
Hey Guys
Just a quick update i have tried and tested this app on 1.1.3 runs fine only problem i found was that it does not save your settings for e.g. the start from saved page does not work properly
hope this helps
I can get it to show the files but they won’t open either with Start New Book or Saved Page. So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong..app stays open everything should work..but it’s not. Any idea?

Hey it works. BUT the resolution makes the text of the comics unreadable when zoomed…. why? is there something that can be done?
pass to another page and then bo pack to the previous page, so it can be read
Will we see this in the upcoming App Store?
