SMSD iPhone SMS Delete And Forwarding Application
This application much like Wetool addresses some of the shortcomings of the SMS messaging application on the iPhone. The major features which are included on SMSD which Apple has neglected to add are deletion of individual messages, forwarding of SMS messages to groups of people and a built in character counter. The application is at version 0.09 but apparently seems stable in regards to the advertised features.
A more thorough overview taken from the developers site:

Delete individual messages
Different views for incoming and outgoing messages
Templates
Backup all message through mail.
Compose new messages. (Apple got this right.)
Reply to messages. (Well, Apple did not miss this one.)
Forward messages.
Support for concatenated SMS (long SMS).
Send/Forward messages to multiple contacts.
Character counter.
Send Contact Information through message.
To install manually:
Put the extracted zip dir (SMSD.app) in /Applications on iPhone. From v0.09 onwards, you will also have to copy com.amrut.iphone.SMSD.plist to /Library/LaunchDaemons. And last but not the least, dont forget to set executable permissions for SMSD and SMSDNotifier files.

Install it using installer.app. (Which Should Be Available Soon)

Does this app support disabling the original sms app.. so tha it does not try to handle the incoming sms’
No, it doesn’t disable the original sms app, it just helps you manage your sms by being able to delete single threads and forward sms messages to multiple recipients.

Version 0.2.1 (the latest Installer shows) doesn’t seem to work on 1.1.3. Is there a new version? I can’t seem to get to the developer’s site listed above.

Hi, I installed the program with the Installer, but when I am opening the program trough term-vt100 as root, the SMSD program give me an error: Something about it can’t open the database file. I’am running with 1.1.3
is there any upcoming version of smsd that may work with 1.1.3

How does one set the permissions? I copied to relevant files to the respective folders but the app does not run: just shows a blank screen and return to the Springboard after a few secs. Can anyone please give some detailed instructions?

I’m facing similar probs mentioned above wit regrds to SMSD with version1.1.3.
Thrane: When I try installing WeTool, i get a warning saying ‘This pacakge comes from an untrusted source, it may be unsafe to install’. Should I still go ahead? I purchashed this iphone recently in India so don’t want to take any risks.

No offense to any of the hard working soul who developed SMSD and WEBTOOL but both are pretty much useless (that is if you are lucky enough to make them work) SMS to multiple user is part of 1.1.4 and unless these 2 program will soon includes multiple sms to address book groups they are not worth wasting your precious time!

passsword : alpine
1) Unzip SMSD.app.zip from Download ZIP Files (SMSD-v0.2.3beta1.zip) and then copy SMSD.app to folder /Applications
2) From (SMSD-v0.2.3beta1.zip), Copy file “SMSDHelper” from Folder “MobileSMS.app” to /Applications/MobileSMS.app
3) From (SMSD-v0.2.3beta1.zip), Copy file “com.amrut.iphone.SMSD.plist” from folder “Library/launchdaemons” to /Library/launchdaemons/
5) Restart IPhone !
Launch the SMSD from SpringBoard.
6) Launch Term-vt100, Login again, then type # cd /, then enter
7) type # cd /Applications/SMSD.app, then enter (Now U r inside Folder SMSD.app)
6) To change all files permission at /SMSD.app, type # chmod 755 * , then enter
7) type # exec SMSD, then enter (It will show “command not found” and then [Process Completed].)

hi, i did every think you (Bruce) said in comment 38 exept one think missing: I did not find any file “SMSDHelper”. instead I copied the file “MobileSMS” in his same folder.
But still no result… is taking me ages to run it!

don’t bother searching for that app, use the iSMS app and just add the http://iphone.nonsoft.com/repo to sources and is under Shawn Chain’s Apps category works great, im on 1.1.3

Hi I install SMSD from installer followed from modmyphone.com. After installing smsd in my iphone application is opening. When i open smsd it open after that it turn off…..I want to use this app andhelp me out.

I used SMSD a lot when I was on 1.1.2, now I’m on 1.1.4 and at first the app just opened a white screen and went back to SB, but after doing everything you said, it worked at ONCE. There was one thing, when I had to enter: # exec SMSD.app, nothing happened, but when I removed the # it worked. So everyone who can’t get this app to work, read his reply, it works!

hi, to all does who tried n failed try following comment #44!! After refreshing download da snapshot version of iSMS from installer,it works gr8 so far n far easier for da not so technology advanced geeks!

Hi all, I am running 1.1.4 and followed the instructions that Bruce provided, and everything seemed to work correctly (i had to also remove the # symbol) but when i launch from springboard, it looks like its starting to open then it closes and returns to springboard.

As an norwegean i would like a norwegean keybort in sms keyboard, is this possible ?
We have thise letters Æ , Ø and Å ( æ, ø and å ) ( Denmark has them too ) thise are used often. swedish people will then have same problem ( They use Ä Ö and Å ( ä ö and å )
If not we have an alternative with ae for æ / ä oe for ø / ö and aa for å ( but this only to tell people that you dont have the actual “right” letter )
would have been great if those letters where inplanded in an extra letterbox for spesial signs
